On 29 January 2026, the second European Open Source Awards ceremony took place in Brussels, honouring personalities from the open source scene. The awards demonstrated the broad importance of open source software for Europe's digital infrastructure and sovereignty.

Lors de la cérémonie des European Open Source Awards 2026, Stefano Zacchiroli, professeur à Télécom Paris, a été distingué, aux côtés de Roberto Di Cosmo, chercheur à l’Université Paris-Diderot/INRIA, par une Special Recognition for Community Impact pour leur initiative Software Heritage.

The European Open Source Academy (EOSA) has awarded Greg Kroah-Hartman the 2026 Excellence in Open Source Award, presented by the European community for outstanding contributions to open source development.

This recognition for Nextcloud as an open source solution with meaningful economic and societal value would not have been possible without the support of our community.

The week began on January 29 in Brussels with the Code & Compliance conference, organised by the Eclipse Foundation. OSI was also present at the European Open Source Academy awards, an event which celebrates outstanding contributions of Europeans to Open Source. Last year, we joined the Academy as knowledge partners.
