European Open Source Academy Magazine Submission Guidelines
European Open Source Academy Magazine – Public Recognition of Open Source in Europe

The submissions to EOSA Magazine are now open! We welcome contributions from the open source community across Europe: developers, maintainers, companies, researchers, and advocates—whether you are just starting your open source journey or have decades of experience. Our goal is to showcase the people, projects, and ideas shaping the open source ecosystem in Europe.
The final deadline for submission is 15th of October, 2025, at 23:59 CEST.

 

Who is welcome to contribute?

The Magazine will showcase all voices that contribute to open source. We invite all contributions across all fields of government ( national, regional, local levels), industry ( i.e. Automotive, Finance, Agriculture, Telco, Transport, Education and more), Academia and science, civil society, and the broader open source ecosystem.

Whether you work as an open source maintainer, service provider, researcher, project steward, policy maker, or simply an end user of open source - contribute to one of the sections listed below.

Regardless on the type of submission you decide to make, we would like to welcome perspectives that are either organisation-centric, community-centric or sector-centric.

 

Sections open to contributions

We are looking for contributions across the fields of open technologies, including Open Source Software and Hardware, but laso overlapping topics such as Open Data and Open Source AI.

You can make submissions to the following themes will be part of the first EOSA Magazine:  
   •  Community & Culture – Focusing on the diversity and practices of community, that go beyond the code.
   •  Policy Impact – How recognition of open source  supports digital sovereignty and EU policy goals.
   •  Business & Impact – Ways in which the recognition of open source act as a driver of entrepreneurship and economic value.
   •  Skills & Education – Latest achievements in academia, early careers, and lifelong learning when it comes to open source.
   •  Diverse Perspectives – Lessons from other regions and open fields (data, science, hardware).

 

The formats you can submit to any of the themes: 
   • Articles – In-depth looks at projects, communities, or company initiatives that have shaped the discourse on European open source.
   • Interviews & Profiles – Share the stories of individuals or teams driving impact in open source, whether in the field of open source software or hardware.
   • Opinion & Thought Pieces – Perspectives on open source trends, challenges, or latest policy changes in Europe.
   • Fact sheets and illustrations– Tutorials, best practices, or lessons learned that all open source community members should know about.

 

Submission Guidelines

Submission  Length:
       ◦ For articles: up to 1.500 words
       ◦ For interviews and opinion pieces: up to 1.000 words
       ◦ For fact sheets: up to 600 words

Assume you will have access to a broader readership : from business leaders, open source developers or even curious newcomers. Aim to be clear and have accessible writing for a broad audience, and provide useful links where possible. Submissions should be original and not published elsewhere. Submissions should be made in English. Please note the submissions from Europe will be prioritised, while Global Perspectives section is open to anyone’s contribution.

 

How to Submit

1. Submit drafts as a text document (Word, or Google Docs). Please include the title, and to which section are you making submission to.
2. Make sure to include:
       ◦ A short author bio (50–100 words)
       ◦ Links to your project, company, or profile
       ◦ Any relevant images (with permissions/attributions)

Review Process

Submissions are reviewed by our editorial team for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with our mission. Successful submissions will be contacted end of October, and may be requested for one round of editorial check.

Also please note : 
   • Authors retain copyright.
   • By submitting, you grant EOSA the right to publish your piece in print and/or online.

The EOSA Magazine highlights the expertise and experiences of all open source community members. Below we list some of the areas of interests and topics that would be of interest to the readership.

Areas of interest stretch across the technology stack. Potential areas of Open Source Software specifically include (but not limited to) programming languages and tools, network and data transfer, databased and file management, Web, Desktop suites and applciation. Potential areas of Open Source Hardware include (but not limited to) Open Source Silicon, Open Source Data Center & Networking Hardware, Open Source Electronics, Open Source Mechanical Hardware, and Open Science Hardware.

Topics can touch on (but not limited to) Leadership (Policy & C-suite), Project/product management, Governance, Procurement, Licensing & compliance, Security, IT infra & training, Community engagement, and more.
